For those outside of the inner circle [Apr. 24th, 2008|04:39 pm]
[mood |Alive]

For most people there have been 24 days in April, for me there have been 4. On March 29th I woke up and felt cold and ill so I went back to bed. By maybe 3pm I was still feeling bad and knew something else was up so I had Skylie take me to the emergency room. Which turned into an interest drive because by the time we got there (maybe a 10 minute drive) I could no longer see.

From here on I can’t tell you what happened, I have a lot of memories which I can’t place in any chronological order or tell which are real and which are not. Well auditioning to be the 13th Doctor Who probably wasn’t real.

I woke up around 7am and my Dad was with me. My Dad asks me what day I think it is. I know sometime has passed so I say Tuesday. My Dad tells me its Wednesday of the next week; I have been unconscious in the ICU for 10 days. Turns out I had pneumonia, but the kicker was I also had Streptococcus pneumococcus an inflection in my blood which was terrible for me because I have no spleen. I spent the next 3 days in the ICU slowly recovering. By Saturday they moved me into a normal hospital room and by Sunday I get released by 4 pm. Spending just over two weeks in the hospital, my longest stay ever.

I spent the next week between my parent’s home and my apartment resting, and recovering. I went into the hospital weighing about 190 lbs with all the fluids they were giving me I got up to 220 and I now weigh 175. At some point in the ICU I even had some bleeding in my eyes, while my left is fine, I can’t see out of the center of my right eye. Which makes reading and working on a monitor difficult, I have to where an eye patch to bring things into focus : \

I went back to work this week, putting in 5-6 hours a day, but even that is difficult. My house hunt, which was going at a great pace, has come to a stop for a bit. And with the changes in seasons and Skylie’s work schedule my drive to play WoW was dropped to about nil.

While physically I am getting better I feel like the world is moving at 55 Mph and I am moving at 30 Mph. I am hoping this feeling will pass and maybe by next week I will feel more like myself but for now I just feel sooo drained.

Family Guy Star Wars [Sep. 23rd, 2007|09:25 pm]
/Nerd On

For anyone watching the Family Guy Star Wars special; Brian said "Isn't a Parsec a unit of measure?" in the cantina. Well yes a Parsec is a unit of measure but what you don't understand about the Kessel Run is it isn't about speed its about how close you can cut the event horizon of the Maw Cluster(a group of Black Holes located next to the planet Kessel). So when Han Solo says "the ship that made the Kessel Run in less than 12 parsecs" he is actually referring to the distance the Millennium Falcon travel while making the Kessel run, not its speed.

Oh and OMG TOM BAKER IN HYPERSPACE!!!! that made my day.

Well after that episode of House, the terrible tea, the unfullfilling dinner, and the 451 person que on Fenris, I’m kind of depressed, but luckily this tall glass of ice water is cheering me and reminding me why I wanted to yell “SEE THAT, I’M A FUCKING GENIUS” today.

I started working on my Map Book Application again. It’s been about 4 months since I have been able too. Muskegon got their beta notes back to me last week (I sent them the beta back in July.) So I started working on it, now the big things that needed fixing were things I knew about 4 months ago ;p, but time had run out. Also they were the hard things, I remember looking at the last big one for two days trying to hammer out how it work and how to fix it, but I couldn’t make heads or tails of the programming language and what it was doing. I have to use ArcObject to code this GIS stuff, its fuck bizzaro, you have to reference everything. So like lets pretend I’m C++ or Java and I want to talk to Phil, I call Phil up and say “hi.” If I’m ArcObjects instead, I call Skylie, who calls Bogin, whos calls Becca, whos calls Meg, who calls Elliot, who calls Adam, and Adam calls Phil and says hi for me, ahhhh, it sucks sometimes. Anyway so I started working on one of these three big problems yesterday, and what do you know I figure it out in 4 hours and start on the next one. And by noon this morning I had it fixed and done. Now this last one, the one I spent two days just looking at before starting, I began working on. I go through line by line, looking everything up, checking every reference. And by 5, zomg I had gone through it all and figured it out, I even had a plan for adapting it to my needs, hell I would have started working on it then, but I needed food. Anyway so at the end of 2 days I had gone back and fixed, or nearly fix things that had stumped me for weeks. I felt smart at work for a change ;p.

Time to raid ShadowFang Keep

[mood |Squirrely]
[music |Ballroom Blitz]

Interesting couple of days lets see if I can remember it all. Well Risen has pretty much fallen apart. It’s a sad day for raiding Conina. The guild is still together but we don’t seem to raid anything besides MC and BWL which I don’t need anything from. And we had just started Naxx. Oh well I guess in the grand scheme of things with the expansion in a couple months and starting over anyway, its not a totally loose. For the moment I am back to Vilehearth melting facing until the expansion or something else comes along. Still its hard going from a Tier 2.5 rogue back to a green wearing priest.

Last week I pulled four ten hour days so I could head down to Mt Pleasant a day early. It was great having an extra day with Skylie, although all my plans kind of grrr fuzzeled. I thought the guys in the old apartment would be having a party like we did in years past, but nope, and I was a moron and forgot to check facebook, turns out I had three invites to parties and didn’t know about, doh. We did get to go see Rocky Horror, that’s always fun, although when we pulled up I notice they had a lot more advertising this year. And, when I went in I read one of the signs and couldn’t figure out what “Jesus loves you” had to do with Rocky Horror. Later I learned these were all protesters and they were up and down Mission St Saturday night, go figure; almost as useless as the protesters in front of McDonalds if you ask me.

Then Sunday I headed up state, had a couple more hours to put in at work. I got home, went to use the bathroom and there was a terd sitting in the toilet, since no had been home for 3 days, I was like GROOOOSSSS. Then open closer inspection, that’s no terd it’s a SPACE STATION, I mean squirrel! Yes some how a squirrel got into our house and drowned in the toilet. And as I sit here typing this up, there is a scratching at the ceiling and both cats are looking intently at it. Mystery solved.

And one more thing, I got to hooked my new laptop up at work, just to give you an idea, this thing cost $2500, so its bad ass mother fucker. Tomorrow I will start installing the rest of everything I need on it, and hopefully be able to take it down to Clare this Thursday/Friday when I do training down there.

That wraps it up

Stuck at home blues [Oct. 10th, 2006|02:30 am]
As I sit here in the basement, cat purring on my lap, TV blaring, my mom riding on her exercise bike, I wish I had some quiet corner to crawl into.

So I’ve been here for just over a month, basically I am counting from the beginning of the school year. Can’t say I am very happy; work is going great, still learning new stuff and the people there are great teachers as well as co-workers, and hell I can’t complain about the money, but the rest of life is kind of lame at the moment. The whole coming home, getting the mail, starting the laundry, emptying the dishwasher, then going downstairs and waiting for dinner is kind of old, I mean I did this for the first 18 years of my life. I’ve finished college, I guess technically I am as adult as I am going to get, so making changes is completely up to me. So what do I do?

I have been looking into getting a YMCA member, at least then I can continue to exercise into the winter, after getting my rod out and getting back to biking I remember just how much I like doing it, having a time where my mind can just wonder and all I have to do is keep pumping my legs. But, all that really means is that I come home at 6, get the mail, start the laundry, empty the dishwasher, and skip the downstairs part and go right to dinner. Not a whole lot of change. : (

Another big change I could do, well I could go get my own apartment, but all that does is give me more responsibilities and I lose this opportunity to pocket almost a year of full time wages, which adds up to quite a lot. Also of all people Bryan Yachick (sp?) called me the other day, said we should go out to bars. I’m not to sure I want to go out to the bars, get drunk, and have to get up at 6am to work. I like the guy and all but I think our interests have diverged over the last five years.

Then last weekend, I ended up going to a party down in Mt Pleasant, it was a blast, but on the down side it reminded of what I miss from college. I don’t think it’s living in a past type thing, I think I just miss the people. I miss living with 4 other guys and being 5 minutes away from Skylie. Basically all I do now is play WOW, but it’s not like I have much else to do.

Maybe all I needed to do was vent, kind of having a pit in the stomach night, I don’t know, at least my mom has left the basement and it’s a million times quieter.

Well they started to pull in MC, I had some aspirations of getting a Thunder Fury today, guess that’s it for this post

70 miles and two days later [Sep. 17th, 2006|10:24 pm]
[mood |OUCH]
[music |-Hear of the Sword-]

Well everyone else seems to be doing updates and there is no raid tonight, so what the fuck.

Life goes on here in TC. I started having a decent schedule, would come home from work, do some exercise, get out on the bike, have dinner and chill in the evening, pretty nice. Even last week I went down to the City of Ithaca to do some training for their city officials. Brooks summed up the computer knowledge of these people pretty well; “this is the TV part, this is the typewriter part, and this is the box that turns it on.” I even got to spend the nights there with Skylie, yah. But, when I got home Monday I had some pain in my back and by the end of the day it felt like someone was stabbing me, well after a quick trip to the doctors, I learned that I had a form of chicken pox’s, I must be a sponge for fuck bizzaro diseases sometimes. Anyway it made my week hell. Luckly by Friday most of the pain had gone away and I was consuming 800 mg of Ibprophen twice a day instead every two hours. Which was great for me, because I had a big trip this weekend.

Starting at 5am Saturday morning my Dad and I drove up to Mackinaw City to participate in the Big Mac bike tour. Once there we biked 55 miles around the area, down to Cross Village and the Legs restaurant and back along Paradise Lake. Fun trip, we had to do it on our mountain bikes though so it got to be a pain in the end. We killed the rest of the day at a local bar called the Keyhole watching the Michigan/Notre Dame game; which for anyone that didn’t see it was just amazing. In the evening there was this weird truck rally, where 5 miles worth of trucks went over the Mackinaw Bridge lights on and horns a blaring.

Sunday it was the bike across the bridge. Which settles a question in my mind from a year ago, when we were driving across it to Bogin’s cabin; someone said “Brian slow down, we’ll get blown off.” If I can bike across it, you can’t get blown off it in a car ;p. After we finished the bridge we headed over to Mackinaw Island and biked the island twice over; exterior and interior. So that was my two days and 70 miles.

While doing things up here with my folks is nice and stuff, I really miss it down in Mt Pleasant, well maybe not the town so much as the people. I really miss Skylie on top of everything, seeing each other on the weekends is ok, but hellal sucks compare to last year and living five minutes down the road. Yar, oh well, nothing much either of us can do at the moment. Ren Fair’s this week yah for seeing everyone, now I just need to make it Friday.

Well guess I will leave with this THIS
Try and spot the major difference between this and the America version

A live journal update about work, WTF? [Jul. 25th, 2006|08:46 pm]
[Current Location |Molten Core]
[music |HMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM]

Yes yes this is about work. Some of you know that up until three weeks about I have been working on a major project for IGI. It was my first programming experience in the real world. Basically this program makes a lot of maps and it does it in a way that county/city governments want, like hardcore. It was a huge project, I wrote most of the stuff in VB, but to actually use ESRI software you have to talk to it through another language called ArcObjects so I had to learn a whole new language on the fly. After many days beating my head into walls I had a grasp on the thing. And three weeks I finished it, wrapped it up, and sent it down to Muskegon County for Beta testing.

Then a week after we sent it off, the President and Secretary of ENMUG (ESRI Northern Michigan Users Group) ask me if I would be do a presentation on my Application at they yearly meeting; I said yes. So last Monday I did a big hour and half presentation complete with a Power Point, Demonstrations, and Q&A. Later that week one of the groups that was at the meeting called and asked if I would demo the software for them. So today I drove out and gave a demo and explanation for a couple hours. At the end the Director of Equalization practically flipped out the checkbook and ask me how much and when they can have it

So now this means women will rip off their cloths in front of me and toss large sums of money my way, right? Well no, it means I get to add Software Designer/Marketer to my title and some more ammo for my resume. Pretty cool.

W00t, yah yah, EXALTED CC [Jul. 19th, 2006|11:19 pm]
[mood |Pensive]
[music | Reel 2 Reel – I like to move it move it ]

Alright so I am a goaled orientated person, I take one thing put the blinders on and pretty much go until finished. So I finished the goal I started a couple months ago and that’s getting exalted with CC for my Earthstrike. So most of you have no clue what I am talking about but for those who do, yah new SS record 1264, take that furry warrior.

So now I need to find some new stuff to do, lucky for me 30 hours without power sparked my imagination. I finished Spell for Chameleon the first of the Xanth novel, it was great, I’m going to go out tomorrow and try to hunt down the next book. And… I stopped in at Scuba North and lucky for me that I did, because they had a clearance sale on the fins I want, so I got $200 for $90, so I have been out in the water chasing fish and any water fowl stupid enough to get close to me. And Dwryer and I are trying to schedule a time to go scuba diving.

Well I have pretty much decided to live in my parents basement for the year, although sometimes I still get the “go out and find an apartment vib” but if I survive here for a year I will have a nice padded bank account, and I think that most of the problems this summer will disappear come fall. Richard is running into some of the same problems I did when I first came home from college, the parents stilling treating him like a 14 year old who needs constant governing and supervision, well he doesn’t take it very well and so he yells, then my mom yells, then he yells, then mom turns to Dad, Dad yells, then the next 4 hours and spent with everyone glaring at each other, enough passive aggressive comments to sick a ship and I just sit there uncomfortably. Well not really my problem, I just have to put up with it.

This weekend is my Grandma’s funeral she passed away this year and it was expected, so its not going to be a sad weekend as much as it will be a send off. My whole family will be in town, which basically means my Aunt and Uncle will be up from Florida and now I guess my other Uncle (in name) will be here too, he kind of fell of the face of the earth for the past 4 years. There will be a lot of good food, cookies, and me sneaking down to the basement to work on my new hard drive.

Its funny how I see time now that I am no longer in School. I realized that its almost August which if it were any year passed means I would start thinking of Marching Band and school. Not anymore, all I do now is go to work for 8 hours a day come home and do whatever I want, I even have money to buy things, which is a big change for me, since I rarely spent money. It’s a nice change, although a lot of the time I wish Skylie was up here, so not only would I have time to do things, I would have someone to do them with. Things between us are going well, we get to see each other for next two weekends and then a week, which will be really nice. After that though I lose the apartment and will be up here, hopefully I can make it down on most weekends. It makes me sad and worried to think about next year and only being able to see each other on the weekends.

Only other thing going on right now is work. My boss is really happy with my work and basically today said he wants to keep me around for as long as possible. This Monday was the summer meeting of ENMUG, ESRI Northern Michigan User Group, a bunch of GIS people. Where I gave a presentation on the software product I just finished writing, the group was really impressed and I got a lot of good feedback and actually requests to look into buying it. That made me happy, tomorrow a guy from Ithaca comes up to talk to Jim and I get to show him how to do parcel edits, which is pretty funny considering how easy they are to do.

Guess that’s it
